Bavarian hydrogen fuel cell supplier Proton Motor Fuel Cell has been awarded an order to supply its cells by a European shipbuilding company.
Specializing in graphite bipolar-plated fuel cells generating power outputs up to 73kW, the company claims it beat competition from other manufacturers such as Swedish firm PowerCell, in an extensive selection process lasting several months.
“This is significant news given that Proton Motor was the first international manufacturer to power a passenger ferry in the port of Hamburg between 2009 and 2014 with a 50kW hydrogen fuel cell system. The order means a great achievement for us as well as a further sign of recognition in the shipbuilding segment,” commented Proton Motor CEO Dr Faiz Nahab on receiving the new maritime contract.
