Van Oord has ordered two additional state-of-the-art water injection vessels from the Kooiman Marine Group following the successful operation of two sister ships, the Maas and the Mersey.
Built to the same specification, the water injection vessels will feature a hybrid energy management system that will enable them to store energy in batteries for propulsion and other applications during operations. By utilizing diesel-electric engines to reduce carbon emissions, the vessels will also comply with the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III legislation for reducing harmful NOX emissions and the EU Stage V legislation.
The order comes as Van Oord seeks to extend its fleet to offer water injection dredging and mass flow and power jetting systems. With the latest technologies on board – including heave compensation and dynamic positioning – the vessels can undertake efficient, almost entirely automated dredging operations.
The first of the two water injection vessels will be commissioned in the first half of 2024.
