The Meyer Werft shipyard and Silversea Cruises celebrated the successful float out of the new LNG-powered Silver Nova in Papenburg, Germany on April 28, 2023. It will become the cruise company’s 12th ship in its fleet and is described as “the most environmentally conscious ultra-luxury cruise ship ever built”.
Fitted with hybrid power sources, the Silver Nova will be capable of local emission-free operations in port areas using fuel cells and batteries, with LNG used as its main fuel.
The float out marks the completion of the first construction phase, before Meyer Werft’s team moves on to fitting the interior of the vessel, which will house up to 728 guests. At the end of May 2023, the Silver Nova is scheduled to go on a 32km conveyance down the Ems River to the sea. The vessel will join Silversea’s fleet during summer this year.
“We have reached another important milestone in the construction process with the float out of Silver Nova,” said Jan Meyer, managing director, Meyer Werft. “This ship is an important step toward green cruising due to its many technological features, as well as high environmental compatibility and energy efficiency. Beyond that, Silver Nova features a particularly innovative interior design.”
