Porsche and Austrian-based Frauscher Shipyard have presented another electric sports boat, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Runabout, which comes with a closed foredeck and cabin.
The new Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom variant starts at €572,934 (US$605,362) and is manufactured at the Frauscher shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Upper Austria. Porsche supplies the HV battery and drive system including the control unit as pre-assembled modules. Frauscher handles final assembly, the sales logistics and the aftersales management.
Driving and charging capacity
The new 8.67m-long and 2.49m-wide electric boat sports boat features the all-electric drive unit from the Porsche Macan Turbo and follows the partners’ previous collaboration, the open day cruiser 850 Fantom Air.
The vessel has four driving modes – docking, range, sport and sport plus. Its maximum speed in Sport Plus mode is approximately 90km/h (49kts). It has a 100km range for slow driving and a cruising speed range of 41km/h/22kts for approximately 45km. Furthermore, it has DC charging with up to 270kW and AC charging with up to 11kW.
For the technology transfer from the road to the water, Porsche has deployed its most powerful variant of the all-electric SUV – the rear-axle engine of the Macan Turbo. In the boat, the synchronous motor can deliver up to 400kW. It sits in the hull of the boat and is directly controlled via a Z-drive. The control units are housed in a waterproof box emblazoned with the Porsche logo.
The efficiency of the motor is optimized by power electronics and the use of silicon carbide in the pulse inverter enables high switching frequencies. The high-voltage battery with a gross capacity of 100kWh also comes from the Macan. The wire-rope mount suspension absorbs the immense shocks that occur in waves and at high speeds.
Deck configurations
Frauscher offers a choice between the Runabout and the Air – between a closed foredeck, a classic look, a cabin under the bow and a center helm with seating and lounging options on the bow as well. After the open eFantom, the closed version Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom is now also available with a limited first edition of 25 units.
“Like our sports cars, the eFantom offers an exclusive experience and extraordinary performance. As an elegant day cruiser with an innovative, powerful drive system, she sets new standards in the maritime world. We are continuing along this path together with Frauscher and the new 850 Fantom,” said Lutz Meschke, deputy chairman of the executive board and board member for finance and IT at Porsche.
Customization also plays a major role in boats from Frauscher. Both the upholstery in the cabin and the hull and deck can be selected according to personal preferences. The first Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom is painted in the Porsche colour oakgreen metallic neo and equipped with padding in truffle brown with stitching package 930 in orange.
Passenger amenities
The new 850 Fantom has space for up to seven passengers. The swimming platform at the rear leads to a lounge area with comfortable sunbathing pads. Studio F A Porsche in Zell am See and Style Porsche in Weissach collaborated in the design of the cockpit. Here, users will find the steering wheel and the seats in the characteristic sports car design – including the Porsche crest on the headrests – and in the cabin, there are seating and lounging areas for visitors.
The eFantom is equipped with a folding sunshade. An audio system with Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity also comes standard. It can be controlled via the 12in infotainment display, in which an echo sounder and chart plotter are also integrated. As with the Macan, a second screen is also offered for the co-driver. The eFantom is also equipped with LED ambient lighting and LED underwater lighting at the rear.
