The Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme (CFIIS) has submitted a planning application and marine license application for an infrastructure upgrade to facilitate the operation of a new electric ferry.
Enabling works
The application, funded by investment commitments through the Inverness & Highland City Region Deal, proposes Loch Linnhe/Corran Narrows infrastructure works and improvements to the related shoreside infrastructure. To support the operation of an upgrade to the ferry service at Corran Narrows with a new electric vessel, it involves the construction of a new slipway and an overnight berthing pier at Ardgour, and the construction of a new slipway, breakwater, marshalling area, parking, cycle path and public facilities, north of the Corran settlement on the Nether Lochaber side.
The new and upgraded infrastructure will be facilitated by demolition of the small, existing pier at Ardgour, land reclamation, dredging activities and the establishment of temporary construction compounds, and includes both marine construction and dredging works below man high water springs (MHWS), as well as construction works above mean low water springs (MLWS).
Application steps
When both applications are validated, a copy of the public notices advertising these applications, a copy of supporting documents and further information on the proposals will be found at the Council’s Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme webpage Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme.
Adverts have been placed for interested contractors through Public Contracts Scotland, and tenders are programmed to be issued to the contractors later this year with construction commencing in November 2025. Award of the contract will be dependent on the successful conclusion of the construction consents.
