Cemre Shipyard has announced the delivery of its latest build to Norwegian owners Liegruppen. The Libas is the first hybrid purse seiner trawler powered by LNG.
Designed by Norwegian company Salt Ship Design, the vessel features a 350m3 MAN Cyro LNG tank, and is powered by a 6,000kW MAN 6L51/60DF main engine. The vessel also features a Renk gearbox, a MAN Alpha3000 propeller system and a 500kWh battery system.
The 86m-long, 17.8m-wide vessel features an array of deck equipment, including a Karmøy system for purse seining, and a package of electric Rapp Hydema winches.
Thanks to its LNG system, the ship is estimated to reduce emissions by 25% compared with traditional diesel engine equivalents, with further emissions reductions expected when using a biogas fuel mix. Due to the hybrid nature of the vessel, frequent stops will have to be made along the Norwegian coast where fuel can be supplied.
Two more vessels using the same technology, named the Sunny Lady and the Selvåg Senior, are currently being built by Cemre for Norwegian ownership.
